Leading the compression industry for BREW applications by succeeding in reducing size of a compiled program by half
Abstract
KYOTO — November 26, 2003 — Sophia Cradle Incorporated (Headquarter: Kyoto; CEO: Kazunori Sugiyama), an innovative developer of mobile phone software, today announced the release of a free evaluation version of SophiaCompress, a new compression technology for BREW [*1] that reduces size of a program by 50 per cent. Full version will be released in January 2004.
Full Story
In response to the demand by leading game makers and mobile phone Internet content providers who adopted the previously-released Java version of the compression technology SophiaCompress(Java)[*2], Sophia Cradle has developed the BREW version called SophiaCompress(BREW). It compresses a ".mod" file, a compiled BREW program, by fifty per cent making the size of the compressed ".mod" file half of the original size. This product is the first and the only technology developed in the world as a compression tool for BREW programs.
Below is a table that shows how SophiaCompress(BREW) performs with six sample BREW applications that are included in the SophiaFramework [*3] package. It proves that the average rate of compression for those sample applications is fifty per cent.
Name of BREW Application | Before | After | Compress Rate |
---|---|---|---|
FrameworkDemo | 43,192 Bytes | 21,810 Bytes | 50% |
HelloWorld | 27,624 Bytes | 15,231 Bytes | 45% |
Cartoon | 36,240 Bytes | 19,051 Bytes | 47% |
Calculator | 72,984 Bytes | 34,900 Bytes | 52% |
Scheduler | 98,732 Bytes | 47,803 Bytes | 52% |
AddressBook | 108,592 Byte | 50,219 Byte | 54% |
The compression rate is calculated as: (size after compression) / (size before compression)
