The number of BREW [*1] mobile phones that are primarily adopted by KDDI in December 2003, has been increasing to more than ten million in Japan. NTT DoCoMo will also support BREW starting from fall this year. Currently, 34 handset manufacturers and 45 network operators are using BREW technology and the numbers are expected to grow.

Following this market trend, Sophia Cradle has developed SophiaCompress(BREW) [*2], the only compression utility for BREW applications in the world. SophiaCompress(BREW) helps developers create smaller applications with better functionality and is used by many leading game makers, content providers, system integrators, etc.

Sophia Cradle today starts selling English version of SophiaCompress(BREW) to overseas software developers.

Pricing and Availability
SophiaCompress(BREW) is JPY 300,000 per license. Estimating that the world market is five times larger than the domestic one, Sophia Cradle expects a 500% increase in sales with 1,000 licenses in a year.

The standard of mobile phone software developed by QUALCOMM Incorporated, released in January 2001. BREW applications work fast no matter what the underlying system software in the handset is. A user can download a compiled BREW application from the Internet and use it with any BREW-enabled handset. The worldwide spread of BREW is remarkable, and there are many network operators that provide BREW services, including Japan's KDDI which started offering them in February 2003.
